What we keep, what we show, and what we never do.
This covers trustedcontractor.us and the Trusted Contractor app. Effective October 17, 2026. Questions go to support@trustedcontractor.us.
What we collect
Accounts. An email address, a display name, and the town you choose to show. If you sign in with Apple we receive the identifier Apple gives us and, if you share it, your name and email. Passkeys store a public key only.
Reviews. The text, stars, and job facts you post, and any photos. Location data and camera details are removed from photos before they are saved.
Proof documents. An invoice, contract, permit, or payment record you upload to earn the Verified Job stamp. Only you and our staff can open it. Every time a staff member opens one, that open is logged.
Review links. When a contractor sends you a review link, we record when it was opened, your answer about whether the job happened, and the name and town you type. You do not need an account.
Quote requests. The name, phone number, email, town, and message you send to a business, and the network address it came from. They are encrypted, go only to that business, and are deleted when the business deletes them or leaves Trusted Contractor.
Business claims. On the website: your role, the business email and phone you give, and the document you upload to show you run the business; only our staff see them. In the app: the license number, the phone number on the state record, and the code we sent to it.
State records. We read license, bond, and insurance records from Washington L&I and Oregon CCB public data every day and keep each check. Business pages show the business name, town, license, bond, and insurance status; the owner's name, phone, and street address from the state record are not shown.
Contractor records in the app. Customer names, phone numbers, addresses, job notes, photos, estimates, proposals, change orders, payment records, and signatures. Customer details, notes, proposals, and signatures are encrypted on our servers, and every read and write of them is logged.
Signing. When you sign a proposal or change order online we keep the name you typed, the time, the network address and device type you signed from, and a fingerprint of the document, so the signature can be checked later.
Early access list. An email address and whether you said you are a homeowner or a contractor.
Technical records. Network addresses and device type in our logs, kept 90 days to run the site and stop abuse, for example a business reviewing itself. Three small cookies: one keeps you signed in, one protects forms from forgery, and one carries a short message from one page to the next. We do not run advertising or analytics scripts.
What is public
Your display name, your town, your reviews, your updates, your photos, and the number of reviews and verified jobs on your reviewer page. Business profiles show the business details, license, bond, and insurance status from state records, before and after photos the business published, and replies. Proposals and job records are never public; only the town of a finished job shows on a business profile.
What is never shown or sold
Your email, your phone number, your street address, your documents, customer details inside a contractor's records, and signatures. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. Businesses cannot pay for anything that changes a review or a ranking.
Who we share with
Service providers that do work for us, only for that work: Cloudflare hosts the site and stores its data, Apple handles Sign in with Apple and app notifications, and, once they are switched on, Twilio sends texts and Resend sends email. A quote request goes to the business you send it to. The state agencies whose public records we read receive nothing from us. If the law requires it, we may disclose records to the authority that asks.
Texts
We send texts only to confirm a business claim at the phone number on the state record, and, when a contractor asks us to, to send their customer a review link or a proposal. Reply STOP to any text from us to stop.
How long we keep things
Reviews stay until you delete them. Deleting your account removes your reviews, photos, and proof documents. A contractor who deletes their account removes their jobs, customer details, photos, and proposals; reviews that customers wrote stay, because they belong to the customers. License check history stays with the business profile. Early access emails are deleted after the launch announcement.
Your choices
Edit your display name and town, edit or delete any review, remove photos, and delete your account from Settings on the website or Account in the app. Email us for a copy of what we hold about you.
Age
Trusted Contractor is for adults. We do not knowingly keep information about anyone under 18.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we change the date at the top, say so on this page, and tell signed in users in Activity.
